Vanessa Croft Thompson holds a Bachelors in Education in English Literature as well as years of experience with acting and singing. No stranger to performing arts, Vanessa has been involved with the stage since she was five years old. Growing up in the Los Angeles, California entertainment industry afforded Vanessa the opportunity to work with many big names during her career as a child actress and model.

Locally, Vanessa is well-known as a singer having standing gigs at many of Anguilla’s five star hotels and restaurants. An avid writer, her poetry has been published in Where I See The Sun: an Anthology of Anguillian poetry. She is a long time winner in the Malliouhana Poetry Competition with numerous first prize placings for Spoken Word from 2007 to 2018. In 2017, she represented the literary arts in Anguilla as a Spoken Word poet at CARIFESTA in Barbados. Vanessa most recently spoke as a panelist at the 2018 Anguilla Literary Arts Festival where she presented her experience running a blog. In 2018, Vanessa received the National Youth Award for Outstanding Performance in the Literary Arts. She was nominated at the same ceremony for Recognition in Volunteerism for her work teaching Literature to inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison as well as her pioneer efforts in promoting reading for pleasure amongst adolescents. She has once again been invited to represent Anguilla at this year’s CARIFESTA in Trinidad.

Vanessa currently heads the English Department at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive school where she teaches English Language, Literature and Communication Studies. She also lectures at the Anguilla Community College and teaches a course in Creative Writing at the University of the West Indies, Open Campus. She is currently finishing her Masters of Arts in English Language with the same institution. In her spare time, she runs her lifestyle blog VanessaExplainsItAll.com. She plans on completing her debut novel this year.
